There are a few Colorado wedding venues that I would love to photograph at but have yet to. Camp St. Malo is one of them. It's this Church built out of rocks and on rocks and used to be surrounded by a large lake. It's pretty amazing architecturally. Known as the Chapel on the Rock and Saint Catherine of Siena Chapel, it has a really interesting history you can read more about here if you like.
After Heather and Jeff got ready in Grand Lake, their entire wedding crew boarded a party bus and headed over trail ridge road into Rocky Mountain National Park. It was a bit foggy and some spring snow on the sides of the road but not bad at all. We made it to Camp St. Malo without issue and safe and sound.
While we were there, we were hit with spats of rain throughout the morning but as the ceremony started, the rain stopped and warmed up. Whew!
The same couldn't be said for when we left to go back to Grand Lake. The weather had turned up top of the mountains and wouldn't you know it, we'd have to drive all the way around to get back into Grand Lake. It's about a 2 hour detour. Dumb weather, but in the end, with what little sun we got, it all turned out great.
Make sure to check out their day after wedding photo adventure in Rocky Mountain National Park. I mean, we were right there, so of course you have to go. Even if we didn't have time on their wedding day, we can do another day.
I am available for all of Colorado and destination weddings, elopements, and engagements. I love to wander.
