Sarah and Justin just had to go to Castlewood Canyon for their engagement session. When I am planning for locations I always start with spots that mean something for you. These two are from Franktown and Caslwood Canyon is a nice close getaway for them. By picking a spot that means something to you, my hope is that the photographs will have more meaning to you and make for better stories when sharing them; particularly your future children. My kids love old photos and learning more about the time before them.
As with all my sessions I always aim for variety. I want variety in terrain, trees, and yourselves. We started out in some brush and grassy meadows in some cool scrub oaks. I think these trees are cool cause they can grow really weird, have acorns, and nice leaves that have a cool shape and interest. I have a couple growing in my yard. They grow super slow so in 25 years they might look like these....ahhh, c'est la vie.
One of my favorite things about this park is 1) the trails are super easy and 2) There's a lot of old structures from an old homestead and barns to the old dam from the 1930s. It's not particularly old history but still neat to see and read about.
We ended out the session by heading out to the old, now dry lake and dam and waited for sunset in the tall grass and nature sure didn't disapoint.
I am available for all of Colorado and destination weddings, elopements, and engagements. I love to wander.
