Samantha and JD came out to Colorado for their destination wedding. It makes sense to me when you want to get away from the midwest flatlands and also not have a giant wedding. If you're thinking of having a similar wedding, Rocky Mountain National Park is an excellent location for you.
They gathered their 15ish guests and held their ceremony on this amazing lookout point called 3M curve just inside the park. Its one of the approved locations and just 3 miles past the Beaver Meadows visitors center.
After the ceremony we wandered the park exploring some favorite spots mine but also following the light and seeing where that took us. We found this really neat creek with this gorgeous soft glowing light creeping through the surrounding trees.
Then, it was on to the top of the mountain range. I have been up here so many times and you just never know what type of weather you will encounter; and I think I have seen it all. All out of the season you thought you were in as well.
For Samantha and JD's wedding it started out not too bad. Some really fast wind, so I took them into a more sheltered spot but as soon as the sun started to go down the wind coupled with the temperature drop was insane. It was one of those moments when you can't control much. How you clothes go, your hair and so you just give in an accept the ride you are on. It's like getting caught in a torrential rainstorm and no matter what you do, you get completely soaked and its still raining and you can't get dry nor get more wet. So you let go.
I showed them the images I was taking as the sun was going down and both stuck it out till the end. It was hard work and they love the results. I hope you do too.
I am available for all of Colorado and destination weddings, elopements, and engagements. I love to wander.
