Laura (LJ) and Nate are a facinating couple. They met eachother in Colorado but now live in Omaha Nebraska for Nate's psychiatry job. LJ works for a company that does extensive work in Antartica. LJ joked that their lives have always been surrounded by the cold (Nate is from Minnesota) so why not have thier engagement session in the winter at the base of a glacier?!!!
I am always game for a unique and fun adventure. I have great winter weather gear so I am good to go. The weather was pretty mellow at the parking lot where you start your hike. The trail is pretty well tracked, even in the winter, so its not like your're hiking in knee deep snow to get up to the lake and glacier.
On the way up we saw an old semi-collapsed cabin and stopped for a mini snowball fight and some fun shots with the sun cutting through the pine trees. As we continued the hike you could start to see the mountain come into view and once at the top you were, oh so pleasantly greeted by the blistering wind. The wind generally moves in the same direction, over the glacier and lake and down into the valley. It happens so often up there that you can see the windswept twisted pines.
After having enough wind for a decade we headed down and I suggested we find a nice fireplace in Idaho Springs to warm up and end their session. It was a pretty great way to spend a winter afternoon in the mountains I'd say.
They are getting married this fall in, you guessed it, the MOUNTAINS! Of course not in any ordinary mountain but the Grand Tetons. Check out thier wedding in the Tetons here.
