If you've been following along this wedding adventure you can see we visit some really diverse locations. This is no exception but the trip back was also other worldly. I will get to that in a minute.
This place is incredible. All over Northern California there are parts that are forest but within those there are these pockets where you can find Redwood trees. Even the baby ones are large but holy cow they get massive. There's even super large ones that have fallen and make you ponder on just how large the entire thing was when it stood. It was also interesting to learn that even with there giagantic size their root system is rather tiny.
As we traveled through the Avenue of the Giants which is this scenic byway that weaves in an out of these areas of trees, a large portion of it in Humboldt Redwoods State Park, you could notice each one seemed to have its own character. Some were just skinny but tall trees, other had clover foliage, other had massive ferns. So much to explore and enjoy.
We left fairly early in the morning to head out there so it was pretty cool leaving Fort Bragg and still was when we arrived. The trip back on the otherhand was a very weird experience. We left the redwoods and it was high 70s. As we began going back through the valleys heading towards the beach I notice the temperature gauge was about 98 degrees. As we continue on the highway in between the treed areas its starts jumping 1 to 2 degrees about every second and gets up to 104. I very wisely rented a convertable and my skin starts to feel like we're on fire. Finally just as I reach my breaking point were back in the trees. Then as we start getting close and closer to the coast the temperature starts dropping about 20 degrees every 15 minutes or so. When we get back to the coast its super foggy and about 59 degrees. Hahahah. It was so crazy and fun to experience that.
