Megan and Marty reached out to me with a fabulous idea. Well, several fabulous ideas. First they wanted to get married in a random spot in the forest near Telluride, Colorado with less than 20 people. Perfect for me as I grew up in nearby Montrose, Colorado and I know the area very well. This is when the ideas began to flow. First was, let's go to the Black Canyon National Park before going up to Telluride. Then I mention let's do some photos in the forest outside Montrose. Then Megan and Marty said "Oh! and then let's go out to northern California to do photos in the Redwoods around the Avenue of the Giants." That is where Marty grew up and proposed to Megan. Then I said, "Well, since we will be out there let's go down to Santa Cruz and do some photos at the beach and near some cliffs and spots I found along the Pacific Coast Highway!" So that's what we did. All of that in under a week. All in all, we ended up driving over 1800 miles and flying 1300 miles. It was exciting, fun, magical, beautiful, tiring, and invigorating.
Megan, Marty, and I picked out a spot while on a Skype call, they are living in New York currently. I was really surprised to receive their wedding invitation and delighted to see that they had put the GPS coordinates on it for their guests. I thought it was very fitting for such a travel and adventure loving couple.
Of course, a wedding in Colorado isn't complete without fits of bright hot sunshine, to cloudy, to pouring rain, sun, and then some more rain. Who knows what comes next? Colorado is frenetic.
Their ceremony was great and the weather held. I really liked thier ceremony. They added in an "oathing stone." It's an old Scottish tradition that Megan wanted "to pay homage to the connection Marty and I feel to nature in addition to the permanence of our joining/marriage. For us both it just made sense. Imbuing our vows in stone. We also had gibeon meteorite embedded in our wedding bands." You can read more about the history of the stone ceremony HERE.
After doing photos around their wedding ceremony spot we went a bit lower to the Dallas Divide near Ridgeway for some more photos as the sunset neared.
If you've missed the rest of their wedding adventure make sure to check out Black Canyon National Park, Uncompaghre National Forest, Santa Cruz, California, Humboldt Redwoods State Park, California.
I am available for all of Colorado and destination weddings, elopements, and engagements. I love to wander.
